A Day at the Melbourne Zoo
The Melbourne Zoo is an excellent destination for those seeking something to do in the Victoria area of Australia. In existence since 1862, the zoo boasts over 250 different species from all over the planet, so no matter which animals you're anxious to spot, there's a good chance you'll leave the experience satisfied.
One of the best things about the zoo is the fact that they're constantly adding interesting new features and areas, such as the recently developed Wild Sea, where native wildlife like Australian Fur Seals and Victoria's own Little Penguins swim. If you're looking for a dryer experience, however, you can head over to the award-winning Trail of Elephants, or view some of Australia's other native animals like the koala, platypus, kangaroo, or wombat in the zoo's natural bush environment.

Be sure not to miss the Asian and African rainforests either, where you should be able to spot monkeys, tigers, and other exotic wildlife native to the two habitats. For the real monkey enthusiasts though, stop by the newly added Baboon Lookout, home to the zoo's Hamadryas Baboon population. As you can see, the Melbourne Zoo truly has a wonderfully large variety of fascinating creatures on its grounds, which is a big part of why it's become one of the most prominent and respected zoos in Australia.
For those seeking a more interactive and informative experience at the zoo, regular talks are given by keepers, and feeding times for the animals can also be an excellent opportunity to learn and ask questions. In addition to that, the zoo also supports multiple conservation programs for animals in the wild, which, by taking the time to learn about, can empower you as a visitor to the zoo to take some action on your own.

Conveniently, the Melbourne Zoo is located just five minutes from the City Centre. The best way to get there is generally via tram or train, though parking is available on the grounds. Tram 19 from Elizabeth Street runs daily, Tram 55 from William Street runs Monday through Saturday, and Tram 68 from Elizabeth Street runs on Sundays. Trains, on the other hand, leave from historic Flinders Street Station, and will take you directly to the zoo in Royal Park. Jetstar has daily flights to Melbourne.
The zoo is open every day of the year, including major holidays, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the entry fee is $25.40 AUD for adults. So, if you're searching for a pleasant, enjoyable afternoon in the Victoria area of Australia, look no further than a fun day of animal watching at the Melbourne Zoo.
